Comments: My former husband and I were stationed with the Air Force at Andersen AFB on Guam during April 1975. I remember there were several buildings near our house that were roped off, to be used for the refugees.

My son was born May 21, 1975 at the Naval Base. The doctor told me on May 20th, to come to the hospital early in the morning so they could induce labor on the 21st. Come in early because a truck went out to Tent City to pick up the mothers in labor and bring them in to the hospital. I got the last bed on the obstetrics ward that day. The women that came in after me were put on the women's ward and their babies were housed on the maternity ward. I remember seeing rows of women and their new babies sitting in the hallway of the materinity, nursing, changing diapers and enjoying their new babies. One morning I woke up to find a long line of women, waiting to use the bathroom that was between my room and the room next door. All chattering away in Vietnanese! I have often wondered what happened to the other babies that were born the same day as my son....
