Vietnam Babylift Personal Stories

Tom Naughton

I, Tom Naughton, aka Tran Huu Loc, was born in Vietnam in Hiep Binh, Gia Dinh. I am a very lucky war baby!! I was the last airlift to the USA. I was adopted through Angel Guardian Home. It is now called Mercy First. My adopted family had adopted two other kids. That is how my parents adopted me. I am so amazed at the opportunities I was given to be here. I was raised in a Catholic orphanage somewhere in South Vietnam. I had a best friend travel with me known as Nupha. I was sent to New Jersey. Nupha was sent to Long Island. I have to many bad memories of Vietnam. I was able to block out the majority of my life. I came when I was 5 years old. The orphanage had ages from birth to 14 years of age. It was not your normal living standards. All I remember is the last air lift. Everyone was pushing and shoving to get in the helicopter. I took a Pan Am flight out of Cambodia and landed in San Francisco. I was there for 24 hours to be checked out then was headed to Newark Airport. I was greeted by Joe Namath and a bunch of stars!! There was so much press!! I was given a special gift here when I arrived. I was half black and half Vietnamese. Was not easy growing up! I thank all who contributed to the flights out of Vietnam. MOST OF ALL I THANK ALL THE SOLDIERS who fought for our democracy!! I married and I have twins - a boy and a girl. Once they are of age I will pass my story on to them so they can pass it to their next generations!! We should never forget!!! I will never forget!!!

You may post this so I may find Nupha and other orphan kids that where with me. God bless all of You!!! Thank You Again!
