Vietnam Babylift Personal Stories
During the past fifteen years VWAM has taken over 800 volunteers
both vet and non-vet back to that part of the country we all knew to be South
Vietnam. Most of the veterans have been Marines, Army and Navy with a few
Air Force and Coast Guard.
They have returned on one of our humanitarian teams. These are medical and
project teams that take primary health care services to the poorest of the
poor and build small rural health care stations or medical clinics in the
city. This coming summer VWAM will take a team to Que Son Valley (Hiep Duc,
Binh Lam and Que Son in Quang Nam Province SW of Da Nang) and Da Nang, and
another team to Da Nang only. These two teams will be offering medical-health
services and building VWAM's first Habitat For Humanity house as well as
our 25th medical clinic since 1988.
We do this in memory of those who didn't come back or who made the ultimate
sacrifice, for the ally our country abandoned, in honor of all who served,
for the women, children and elderly, and because it's the right thing to do.
We were the best and brightest then and continue to be so today. If you have
ever thought about going back to Vietnam during peace there isn't a better
way to do it. Many of the vets stay another week to visit their old bases
or AO's upon completion of our humanitarian work. There is a role for everyone
to fill on these teams regardless of professional training or lack thereof.
Please don't hesitate to contact me for additional information. Also, if you'd
like to be placed on our mailing list, please forward your mailing address.
Many thanks for your interest in VWAM and what were doing some 35+ years after
the "American War."
